EXCO KILL LIST is our series about the features that didn't make it. Every EXCO game ships under one rule — if we wouldn't play it, we don't ship it — and this is what that rule costs. First up: our debut title.

The voice-over layer

VEGASCALINE had a voice. A complete voice-over layer was recorded and integrated — lines, stingers, the works. Then we sat down and played the build. The narration fought the game: VEGASCALINE's whole pull is the acid-trip trance of Wrapper Stacks revealing and the multiplier climbing, and a voice talking over it broke the spell every time. The call came from the top and it wasn't diplomatic. All of it went.

Killed for: fighting the vibe.

The coin shower

Big win, coins everywhere — every slot has done it. Ours did it so enthusiastically you could barely read the win tier underneath. We watched testers squint through a golden blizzard trying to find their number and made the call: the celebration was upstaging the thing being celebrated. Cut.

Killed for: obscuring the money.

The re-spins counter

Early builds displayed a counter for the Sticky Re-Spin sequence. Functional, honest, and completely wrong for the game. A re-spin chain is exciting because it might keep going; a visible countdown turns "how far can this run?" into "three spins until it's over." We deleted the counter and let the climbing multiplier carry the tension instead.

Killed for: killing suspense.

What survived

Everything that matters: Wrapper Stacks, Sticky Re-Spins, the Progressive Multiplier ratchet, and the two 777× SuperHacks. How the survivors actually work is covered in EXCO TEARDOWN #1 — the sister series where we open up the math that shipped.

If we wouldn't play it, we don't ship it. The Kill List is where that sentence gets expensive.
